Part 2 – Oxted to Lingfield
Day hike 12.3 miles
If you started at the beginning of the Vanguard Way, you’ll really feel like you’ve left any signs of urban sprawl behind as you head south from Oxted on the Kent/ Surrey border. The route takes you along the edge of the Surrey Hills (with great panoramic views just out of town) and then on through plenty of bucolic scenery with numerous bluebell woods (in season). Arriving in Lingfield, you can either catch a train home or tag this day onto section 3 of the Vanguard Way, a weekend walk to Buxted in Sussex. We have included an overnight suggestion below if you decide to carry on.
Our route goes through the back streets and parks of Oxted to join up with the Vanguard Way just south of the M25. The track ascends a little to reach Limpsfield Chart and then the path gradually descends through fields and small areas of woodland. At Starborough Castle, you turn right off the Vanguard Way towards Lingfield.
