Introduction

This is a bucolic Surrey walk from Woldingham to Oxted, by way of the North Downs Way and Greensand Way. You pass many horses and may spot a deer in the woods. Along with lots of wild garlic and bluebells (when in season), there’s also the potential for llama, rabbit and pig petting at Godstone Farm. 

PLEASE NOTE: The public footpath that goes across the  of the farm is closed until at least springtime 2023 due to building works but you can still pay to visit the farm and/ or take a detour via the road.

DIrections overview

The route climbs steadily up to the top of the North Downs and then descends steeply to a bridge over the M25. There is a section of road after this but it’s not too busy and then there are ridge footpaths including the Greensand Way towards Oxted.

WHY NOT TRY

SLIGHTLY SHORTER WALK 7.8 miles
Shorten the walk by continuing straight on down the road past the Haycutters pub and not turning left on the footpath to Oxted. This leads you to Hurst Green station which is on the same line as Oxted Station.

A popular village and toy can choose between  several  cafés, pubs and restaurants.

Hurst Green
Haycutter Pub
Large popular pub in an 1851 country house with a long bar, garden room & terrace, plus good food. Advisable to book at weekends.

Oxted
Oxted Inn
Wetherspoons, spacious, popular with walkers good for groups directly next to Oxted station so you can roll out of the pub onto the platform.
Oxted also has several cafes and restaurants including

Very popular local Italian restaurant. Pizzas, pasta, risottos. Recommended.

Along the Way

Godstone Farm
This is a large children’s farm  offering animal encounters, indoor & outdoor play areas, shop, café and toilets. A public footpath runs straight across the farm but please buy a ticket if you want to see the animals or visit the cafe or facilities.

Serves hot and cold snacks, pizza, hot dogs and sandwiches. Indoor and outdoor space.

 

TRANSPORT

Woldingham and Oxted stations  are both served by Southern Trains running from London Bridge and Victoria to East Grinstead and Uckfield. Coming from London get a return to Oxted which can be used on both journeys.

 

TOILET OPPORTUNITIES

There are toilets at Godstone Farm if you pay to go in, otherwise it’s pubs and cafés. Oxted Station has public toilets.

Introduction

Enjoy a pretty walk taking in woodland, fields and great views from the top of the North Downs. At the end of the route, you’ll pass through lovely Old Oxted. With four pubs in the High Street, you are spoilt for choice. It’s only a half a mile stumble to Oxted station afterwards

DIrections overview

This route follows the longer route above to the top of the North Downs and then splits off to come steeply downhill on a footpath over the M25.  From here, there are easy tracks to follow to Old Oxted and then pavements to the station.
